TILLOTSON, SYLVIA ELVIRA, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Island Lake Center nursing home in Longwood, Florida. She was 104. Mrs. Tillotson was born Sylvia Olson in Proctor, Vermont in 1908 and majored in journalism at Syracuse University in New York, graduating in 1930. She worked in journalism, publishing and as a librarian before marrying Richard Tillotson, an insurance executive, in 1933. They raised three children, Janice, Sheila and Richard, and lived in Ridgewood, NJ, Elmhurst, IL and Pasadena, CA before retiring to Maitland, FL in 1971. In all the places she lived, Mrs. Tillotson contributed her services as a volunteer to a variety of public institutions and non-profits, often employing her skills in writing and journalism. These organizations included the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, the Travelers' Aid Society in Chicago and the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. She is survived by her son, five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
