Viola M Benson
1913-2006
GENEVA - Viola M Benson of Geneva died Feb 13, 2006 at Fillmore County Hospital at the age of 92.
Funeral services were held Feb 16, 2006 at Christ's Lutheran Church in Davenpot with Pastor Amy Krejcarek officiating. Interment was in the Ong City Cemetery.
Music was provided be Deb Johnson, who accompanied the congregation.
Casket bearers were Darrell Johnson, Stanley Johnson, Howard Johnson, James Benson, Lonnie Benson and Gayle Starr.
Viola was born Nov 17, 1913 near Shickley to George and Ella (Carey) Plautz. She attended Prairie View elementary school and graduated from high school at Edgar. She attended Peru State Teachers College and taught at several rural elementary schools in Clay County.
On Sept 7, 1938 she was united in marriage to Merrill A Benson. They farmed northwest on Ong, She moved from the farm to Geneva in 1998.
She was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Ong, where she was a Sunday School teacher and active in Ladies Aid. When the church closed, she transferred to Christ's Lutheran Church in Davenport.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and brother, Wilbur Plautz.
Survivors include her son Ronald and his wife, Mary Lynn Benson of Norfolk; two grandchildren; sister, Flossie Johnson of Shickley; sister-in-law Helen Benson of Ong.
