Reynold Andrew Thurin, son of Anton and Emma Thurin was born near Ong, Nebraska, December 9, 1906 and met a tragic death in an automobile accident northwest of Ong at the age of 33 years, ten months and 28 days.
Reynold was baptized January 6, 1907 and confirmed in the Stockholm Lutheran Church near Shickley, May 8, 1921, and remained a member there until 1922 when the Thurin family transferred their membership to the Gethsemane Lutheran Church at Ong.
He has always lived in the Ong community and graduated from the Ong High School with the class of 1925. The last years he resided on the farm north of Ong.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, November 19, at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church after a brief prayer service at the home with the Rev A Walfred Anderson of Saronville in charge.
A quartet consisting of Mr and Mrs Clinton Peterson, Mrs Harry Pearson and Harold Swanson sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" at the home and "We Shall Sleep But Not Forever" at the church. Other music at the church was a duet, "In the Garden" by Mr and Mrs Guy Swanson of Sutton and a quartet consisting of four cousins, Fern, Lillian, Rudolph and Robert Larson of Shickley, sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." at the church.
Everett Benson, Jacob Bender, Flynn Christenson, Harold Johnson, Henry Shultz and Henry Swanson served as pallbearers.
He is survived by his brother, Roy of Ong; his two sisters, Mrs. George Idt of Omaha and Mrs Robert Karnatz of Hastings; two nieces and two nephews and his grandmother, Mrs. Samuelson of Ong and a host of other relatives and friends.
His mother and father preceded him in death only a little over a year ago.
Interment was in the Ong Cemetery. ************************************************************ Reynold Thurin, 33, of Ong, was found dead early Friday morning beneath the wreckage of his overturned car near the Ong/Sutton highway about three miles northwest of Ong, where it had come to a stop after leaving the highway sometime during the night Thursday.
Mr. Thurin had spent the evening in Sutton and according to friends had departed for home about 10 o'clock in his car, a late model V-8. It is thought the accident occurred shortly thereafter, although the wrecked car was not discovered until soon after 7 o'clock Friday morning.
Sheriff John Harr and County Attorney John Sullivan were called to the scene where an investigation was made. Tracks in the roadway indicated that the car had been traveling at a high rate of speed and that the driver had apparently set the brakes on the car as indicated by the skid marks in the highway showing plainly that the auto had skidded more than fifty feet before careening into the ditch at the East side of the roadbed.
After striking the ditch the car had turned end-over-end at least three times before landing on it's top in a field on the Emil Anderson farm adjoining the highway on the east. Mr. Thurin's body was found pinned beneath the wreckage of the machine where he had met instant death.
Mr. Thurin was unmarried and had been living on a farm near Ong since graduating from the high school in Ong with the Class of 1925.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. George Idt, of Omaha, Mrs. Robert Karnatz of Hastings, and one brother, Roy, of Ong.
His parents preceded him in death about one year ago.
Funeral services were conducted from the Gethsemane Lutheran Church at Ong with the Rev. A. Walfred Anderson of Saronville in charge.
