Johanna Carlson was born May 12, 1854, in Skane, Sweden. She departed this life December 6, 1945, at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 24 days, after a serious illness of about two weeks.

In 1882 she left her homeland and came to the United States, staying in New Haven, Conn., for one year. She then came to Nebraska City, where on March 12, 1864, she was united in marriage to Nels A. Nelson. In 1891 the family left Otoe County and came to a farm two miles southeast of Ong, where they resided until March, 1920, when they moved to their present home in Ong.

To this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters. the two sons died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Harriet McCloughan, passed away December 30, 1928.

Shortly after moving to Ong, Mrs. Nelson and her husband united with the Swedish Methodist Church. She was a devout and faithful Christian and a kind and loving mother, always considerate of the welfare of others.

She was preceded in death by her husband December 26, 1937. She leaves to mourn her departure the two daughters, Mary H. Nelson and Mrs. Maude Anderson of Ong; three grandchildren, Ines McCloughan of Lincoln, Ray McCloughan of Minneapolis, Minn., and S/Sgt. Eugene Anderson, stationed at Chinju, Korea, besides other other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the home with Rev. S. W. Longacre in charge. Mrs. Herschel Gowen sang "Crossing the Bar." A double duet, Mrs. Herschel Gowen, Mrs. Will Herrick, Mrs. George Gell and Mrs. harry Wight, sang three songs, "Rock of Ages," "The Gate Ajar for Me" and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" Mrs. Ralph McCloughan was at the organ.

Burial was in the Ong Cemetery beside her husband. Pallbearers were Ralph McCloughan, Adoloph Anderson, Nels Edberg, Will Herrick, Algot Peterson and Ernest McCloughan.
