Burns Fatal to Mrs. Neiswanger.
Mrs. H. R. Neiswanger of Broken Bow met with a horrible accident Tuesday afternoon February 15,1938, which resulted in her death a few hours later. While cleaning some clothing with gasoline in the basement of herhome, the fluid ignited, setting fire to Mrs. Neiswanger's clothing.The resulting burns, which encompassed her entire body from her shoulders to her knees, brought about her death.

Mrs. Neiswanger had telephoned her husband at the store about 4 p.m. asking him to come to the house to get her reading glasses which had been broken and which she wished repaired. Within a few minutes Mr. Neiswanger drove into the yard to find his wife outdoors, her clothing ablaze. Securing a blanket from the house, he wrapped her, extinguishing the flames as quickly as possible. Her clothing had burned almost entirely away; however, and the flames had inflicted severe first and second degree burns. Medical aid was summoned immediately, but the extent of the injury was so great that no hope for her recovery existed.

Mr. and Mrs. Neiswanger moved here with their family about seven years ago. Since that time Mr. Neiswanger has been manager of the Safeway grocery store and the family has made many friends in this community who were shocked to learn of the tragic death.

Brief funeral services were held at the Schneringer-Johnson funeral home at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning. Rev. G. C. Robberson and Rev. Lester Gulder officiated. A solo was sung by Ivan C. Caldwell. The body was then transported to Shickley. Neb., where funeral services and burial took place this morning at 11 o'clock.

Myrtle Albertina Bergquist, daughter of Albert and Augusta Bergquist, was born August 2, 1897. She died at Broken Bow, Neb., February 15, 1938. Her mother passed away October 3, 1899. •
In infancy, the deceased was baptized in the Lutheran faith, and she attended Swedish school and Sunday school at Stockholm church in Shickley. May 26, 1912, she was confirmed in the Lutheran church under the faithful instruction of Rev. Carl A. Sward.

She grew to womanhood in the Shickley community and March 24, I 1915, was united in marriage to Harley Ray Neiswanger at the home of her grandmother. They resided in that community until the spring of 1917 when they moved to Peetz, Col., locating on a farm west of that place. August 22, 1919, a son, Leonard. was born who preceded his mother in death on March 31, 1920.
Mrs. Neiswanger leaves to mourn her departure her husband, one son, Gayle, aged sixteen; a daughter, Dona, aged thirteen; her father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bergquist; three sisters, Mrs. Chris Hansen of Willard, Col., Mrs. Ben Miller of Exeter, Neb., Mrs. Gerald Wagner of Sterling, Col., and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and will be deeply missed. — Broken Bow Chief.

Funeral services were conducted at the Stockholm Lutheran church near Shickley, Thursday, February 17, with Rev. A. Walfred Anderson of Saronville in charge. A quartet consisting of Miss Hattie Norman, Mrs. Emil Harnett. O. H. Larson and Allan Bergquist sang, "There's a Land that is Fairer Than Day," "Some Day We Shall Understand," and "Nearer Still Nearer, Close to Thy Heart" with Miss Mildred Larson as accompanist. Interment was in the Stockholm Lutheran cemetery.
