The 11th & 12th grades were in Lodgepole from where she graduated in 1929. She graduated from Palmer Secretarial College in Denver, Colorado. ` On December 30, 1939 she was united in marriage to John Hokom in Sidney, Nebraska. They celebrated their 40th anniversary before John died in March of 1980. After their marriage they lived on the Hokom family farm west of Sunol until 1946, at which time they moved to the Sunny Side Community. Here they raised their family Janet, Gene and Carol. In 1962 they moved into Lodgepole to take care of Dorothy's mother. Dorothy was employed as a secretary for a short time.

It was too confining a job, so she became self-employed as a housekeeper for women in need of help. She thoroughly enjoyed the years spent in their employment. She stopped working at the age of 98. She also baked wedding cakes during the 1950's to 1980's. She supplied Lodgepole with all types of baked goods, pies, cakes, rolls, etc. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting hats and making baby quilts for the AIDS babies. The Olsen's were neighbors in the Sunny Side Community. In 2009, at the Lodgepole Alumni, she was honored as being the oldest living graduate and had been out of school for 80 years. She was still living at the time of the 2012 reunion, but was unable to attend. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Janet and husband Kent Fox of Olathe, KS; her son Gene Hokom and wife Virginia of Lexington, NE; 5 Grandchildren, 7 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great, great granddaughter and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
