Jessie May Woodhead, daughter of Frank and Laura M. Woodhead, was born February 19, 1885, in their farm home four and one-half miles north of Ong, Clay county, Nebraska. She attended Richview Country School and the Ong High School, where she graduated in May, 1903.

Jessie taught in the Primary room in the Ong school room February, 1904, until May 1909. During these five and one-half years, she attended summer school in Geneva and Holdrege.

February 16, 1910, Jessie was united in marriage to August William Benson. To this union were born one son, Lynn Morris, and one daughter, Irma Helene. Her married life was spent on a farm north of Ong.

She was baptized in early life and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Ong, later transferring her membership to the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Ong, where she was a member for 24 years. She was a Sunday school teacher for a number of these years, and was also a member of the women's church organization.

The past 12 years have been spent in a number of rest homes. She departed this life October 24, 1968, at the Mary Lanning Hospital at Hastings, Neb., and the age of 83 years, 8 months and 5 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant twin brother and sister; a brother, Fred Wallace Woodhead; and her husband, August William Benson.

A devoted mother, she leaves to mourn, her son Lynn M. of Ong and his wife Ethel, one daughter, Irma Helene Burgess of Omaha, Neb., seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ethel and Melissa Woodhead of Clay Center, one brother, Albert Woodhead of Omaha, several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Urbauer Funeral Home in Davenport Sunday, October 27, at 2 p.m., Rev. Hilmer Larson of Hastings officiated. Mrs. Ben Nelson and Mrs. Gordon Gowen sang, "Rock of Ages" and "God will Take Care of You." Mrs. Clinton Peterson was organist. Pallbearers were Howard Benson, Merrill Benson, Everett Benson, Wallace Woodhead, Clayton Nelson and Rolland Lewien.

Interment was in the Ong Cemetery.
