Gordon D. Brooks, 88, of Grand Island died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Bickford Cottage.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Gordon's brother, the Rev. Gayle Brooks, will officiate. Burial will be in the Edgar Cemetery on Tuesday at 4 p.m., with military honors provided by the United States Army.

Mr. Brooks was born Feb. 16, 1926, in Edgar to Harry and Gladys (Beck) Brooks.

Survivors include his children, Clayton and Mary Lou Brooks, Cindy Gulzow, and Clarence and Rae Ellen Brooks, all of Grand Island; brothers, Gayle and Alice Brooks of Gassville, Ark., Gary and Demaris Brooks of Hastings; snf sisters, Joyce and Larry Bennett of Hastings, Barbara Rynearson of Englewood, Colo., and Darlene and Jack Stromer of Lyons.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Daniel, David, Brandy, Heather, Jessi, Dustin, Rachelle, and Kevin, along with 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Ann Brooks; and brother, Rolland.

Gordon grew up on the family farm near the Edgar-Juniata area. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1943. He entered the United States Army during WWII, serving from April 2, 1945, to Dec. 9, 1946.

Gordon was united in marriage to Betty Hibbard on June 1, 1953, in Edgar. Following their marriage they lived in Hastings, later making Grand Island their home, where he worked for Nash Finch for 50 ½ years before his retirement.

He was a member of the Eagles club. He enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and visiting with friends. Most of all Gordon enjoyed the time spent with his family.
