Our beloved mother, June Lois Vrana Nelson, was born in Coral gables, FL. on November 30, 1921. She was the second of three children born to Emil & Laura Vrana. Harold Vrana was the oldest and Lois Vrana Meiser was the youngest. Mother spent her early childhood in Coral Gables and then moved to Homestead, FL. where she graduated from Redland high School. Mother was raised among the beautiful citrus groves her father owned and farmed on Silver Palm Drive.
Following her high school graduation, mother traveled to New York City with her sister, Lois, studying art and design, During a family visit to Miami, she met and fell in love with our father, Keith E Nelson. Father was a Master Sargeant in the army, stationed on Miami Beach.
During their courtship, father wrote mother several poetic letters while she was in New York. Their love and devotion for one another resulted in a romantic candlelight wedding on Christmas Eve, 1943 and lasted for nearly 60 years, until the death of our father on Oct 9, 2003. They started a family in 1948, with the birth of their first son, Bruce Keith. In 1954, Donald Gordon was born and then in 1958, Barbara Jean. Mother was "everything" to her family; loving, nurturing, supportive, philosophical and her caring for others was endless. She passed these traits onto her children and to her 5 grandchildren: Christina, Andrew, Michael, William and Greggory.
Mother & Father traveled throughout the United States in their motor home, and spent time at the lake house they shared in Sebring, FL. Many happy, family weekends were spend on the shores of Red Beach Lake over the last 30 years, and is the place where she found peace and tranquility.
Mother lived in Ft. Pierce, FL until she suffered a broken hip in March, 2006. She came down to Ft Lauderdale, where she lived with Barbara & Douglas. During her rehabilitation, she suffered several health set-backs. Mother passed away on May 24, 2006
