Guy "Edgar" Fairchild, age 82, of Spirit Lake, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, at his home in Spirit Lake. He was born on August 24, 1928, in Mobridge, South Dakota, to Guy Edgar and Bernice (Noble) Fairchild.

The family moved to Sioux Rapids when Edgar was in the fifth grade. He graduated from Sioux Rapids High School in 1946, and then went into farming with his father on the family farm.

In 1949, Edgar was united in marriage to Annette Fairchild. They farmed in the Sioux Rapids area, remaining on the same farm for 50 years. During this time, Edgar spent 27 years as a rural mail carrier. Upon his retirement, they made their home on East Lake Okoboji.

Edgar was a member of the United Methodist Church, MUGS, CLAMP, SALT and participated in many church activities. He enjoyed spending his spare time fishing, golfing, playing cards, biking, traveling, dancing and especially coffee time with friends. Family time together and time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to Edgar.

Edgar is survived by his wife, Annette Fairchild; daughter, Janet Harmsen (Jim); son, Ron Fairchild (Patty); three grandchildren; a step-grandson; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gorden; sister-in-laws, Roberta and Margaret.

A memorial service was held Monday, April 18, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. A memorial visitation will be held Sunday at the Schuchert Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
