airfield resident Helen Harriet (Koci) Cook died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, NE. Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday January 27, 1910 at the Presbyterian Community Church in Fairfield, NE with Pastor Lloyd Boyce officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home in Clay Center, NE. Memorial contributions may directed to the family.
Helen born May 21, 1925 in Harvard, NE to William Benjamin and Wilhelmina Ann (Meester) Koci. She graduated from Ong, NE High School in 1944 and attended Nurses training in Grand Island.
She was a long standing member of Fairfield Community Church, the America Legion Auxillary 0256 of Fairfield, the South Central Nebraska Czech Society and several square dance clubs where she held many offices and served on many committees. She was a volunteer in the Foster Grandparents Program in the Sandy Creek Elementary School in Fairfield, NE.
Helen had many hobbies during her lifetime including painting, sewing, quilting, gardening, crafts and especially square dancing which was truly a love of her life. She especially enjoyed spending time with her extended family and traveling.
Helen is survived by children Gary Karnatz of Grand Island, NE, Jerry Karnatz and wife Sandra of Schuyler, NE, Lyle Karnatz and wife Deborah of Edgar, NE, Alleen Ernst and husband Glenn of Magnolia, TX, Diann Gentry of Fairfield, NE, Don Cook and wife Lois of Lompoc, CA, Sharry Christopher and husband Jack of Placentia, CA, Russell Cook and wife Joyce of Fayetteville, PA, sisters Adeline Allen of San Antonio, TX, Margaret Karnatz and husband Lovelle of Hastings, NE,
Caroline Dyer of Hastings, NE,George Koci of Fairfield, CA, Darrell Koci and wife Kaye of Franklin, NE, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her spouses Reuel Karnatz and Myrl Cook, her parents William and Wilhelmina Koci, son Dick Cook, sister Rose Rothfuss, brother-in-laws Don Rothfuss, Phillip Allen and Gerald Dyer and sister-in-law Betty Koci.
