LAWLESS, James Sr. 78, retired TV Executive, of Gulfport, passed away April 15, 2016. He was born in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Florida in 1985. He was married to his loving wife, Madeline for 51 years. He graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1955, and went on to graduate from La Salle University in 1959. He attended Officer Candidate School and joined the Navy in 1959 until 1965 where he received an honorable discharge to care for his family after the passing of his father.

Jim spent almost his entire career in the TV industry beginning at WKBS TV48 in Philadelphia, and then WPLG TV10 in Miami. In 1987 he joined Home Shopping Network and eventually became President and Chief Executive Officer of Home Shopping Club. After HSN he joined Silver King Communications and was President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board.

During his retirement he enjoyed years of golf and was a member of Hunters Green Country Club, and then Pasadena Yacht and Country Club. He was a fixture at Pasadena country club, and played golf six to seven days a week for many years. He was extremely proud, but humble of his 4 holes in one. He mostly enjoyed the many friendships that he established at Pasadena Country Club, and sharing stories at the 19th hole over a few cocktails after every round. Besides golf, Jim was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed all aspects and levels of sports including trivia, where he was hard to stump. What was most important to him during his life was his family. He was always extremely supportive and helpful in any giving situation and loved his family dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Madeline A. Lawless of Gulfport; son, James M. Lawless, Jr .of Tierra Verde; daughter, Lynn A. D'Hulster of St. Pete Beach; sisters, Ann M. Gallo of Warwick, PA and Regina M. Levy of Newtown, PA; and his grandchildren, James M. Lawless III, David A. Lawless, and Matthew L. Lawless of Tierra Verde.
