Clayton M. Nelson, son of Emmert and Emma Nelson, was born on May 14, 1911, near Ong, Nebraska. He departed this life on Saturday, February 6, 1993, having reached the age of 81 years, 8 months and 23 days.

He was baptized as an infant in the Stockholm Lutheran Church near Ong. On June 7, 1925, Clayton was confirmed at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Ong.

On December 1, 1935, he and Helen Johnson were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents, near Sutton. They made their home in the Sutton and Ong vicinity until 1942 when they moved to a farm near Davenport.

Clayton was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church. He served on the church council, was a church usher and a member of LCM. He also worked for the Nuckolls County ASC Committee for several years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Helen, in March 1990; and one brother, Arnold.
Survivors include two sons, Dean and his wife, Marilyn, of Davenport and Jan of York; two daughters, Diana Killman and her husband, Donald, of Beatrice and Sheila Witfoth and her husband, Dennis, of Lincoln; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Layle of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Keith of Sebring, Florida; two sisters, LaVern Johnston and Emogene Murry, both of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 9, 1993, at 2 p.m. from the Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport, Nebraska with Pastor Donald L. Hunzeker officiating. Organist was Doris Keim. Pallbearers were Robert Henkel, Emil Pearson, Louis Hartl, Norris Schardt, Nate Schardt and Joel Reinke. Honorary bearers were Bob Stofer, Dean Wright, Norbert Schroeder, Floyd Anderson, George Henkel, Otto Marquart, Milbourne Pearson, Ted Uhlig, Marvin Mosier and Ken Vorce. Burial was in the Ong Cemetery. Urbauer-Price Funeral Home of Davenport, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
