Emil was born February 7, 1928, to Emil Gotfried and Esther Matilda (Erickson) Pearson, on a farm near Shickley, NE. His father died when Emil was only nine months old, leaving his mother with five children aged 9 and under.

Emil attended country school District 87 for the first eight grades, then Shickley High School, graduating Valedictorian in 1945. After graduation he farmed for his mother until May 1951, when he joined the U.S. Army for two years, one of which he spent in Germany. He returned home and resumed farming.

On November 24, 1978, Emil married Ruth (Venell) Jensen at Trinity Methodist Church in Ralston, NE. Emil retired from farming in 1991, and loved to spend time working in his gardens and caring for their beautiful yard. Emil and Ruth had many friends; they enjoyed square dancing, card clubs, and many memorable traveling tours to historic and scenic venues across the United States. He was an avid reader, liked to catch up with friends at the coffee shop, and was always ready for a game of croquet.

Emil was baptized and confirmed in the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Ong. In 1966 the church closed and Emil transferred his membership to Christ’s Lutheran Church in Davenport. He was active in the church, serving on the church council and other committees. Emil attended an early morning men’s Bible Study Group once a week for several years, and took care of the lawns at the church and parsonage. Emil was a member of the Lions Club, American Legion Post 335, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Davenport.

Emil is survived by step-son Jan Jensen (Deb) of Kearney, NE; step-daughter Suzanne Medlock (Kevin) of Pine Bluff, AR; step-granddaughters Teresa Medlock-Pratt (Mike) of Pine Bluff, AR; and Megan Jensen (Nicholas Jewell) of Lincoln, NE; step-great grandson Christopher Medlock (Miranda / son Matthew) of White Hall, AR.; sister-in-law Marilyn Pearson of Davenport, NE; a host of nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.

Preceding him in death are his wife Ruth, his parents, sister Iola Sederburg, brothers Knox, Arvid, and Robert, and step-grandson Mark Medlock.
