Julius Remstad was born on July 3, 1902 in Slayton, Minnesota to Martin and Anna Remstad. He attended school in Slayton and then worked as a carpenter with his father. His parents ran the "poor farm home" for many years.

On January, 1924, he and Elma Fredricks were married in Flandreau, South Dakota. Following their marriage they lived with Remy's dad and they were partners in the carpentry business. In 1939 they built their own home in Slayton. Later he became police chief in Slayton and was the fire chief of the Slayton Volunteer Fire Department where he served for many years.

Remy was the first baby baptized at the Slayton Lutheran church. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church for most of his life. He enjoyed many activities such as fishing, music, singing, and fixing things. He and his wife celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in January 1989.

Survivors include his wife, two children, Eleanor Tooley of Portland, Oregon, and Wallace Remstad of Canon City, Colorado. He was blessed with three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, and a granddaughter, Ramona.
