Mildred Elaine Thunell Weed, 82, died November 11, 2011 at her home in West Valley City, Utah of natural causes. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, January 26, 1929 to Isaac Peter Thunell and Hildegard Valentine Olson, the youngest of seven children. When Mildred was a young child her family moved to Holladay, Utah. She attended Granite High School.
During her senior year she left on a full time LDS mission to Sweden and traveled with her parents who had been called to serve in the mission presidency. Being just 17 years old when she left, she was not set apart as a missionary until after her 18th birthday shortly after arriving in Sweden. She served faithfully for 2 ½ years and loved speaking of her many great experiences there for the rest of her life. After her mission she married Wendell Dale Weed in June, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Her only child Stewart Wendell Weed was born one year later.
Following her divorce in 1957 she attended college to become an executive secretary. She then worked for 40 years as an executive and legal secretary for several companies including LITTON Industries. In 1964 she and her son moved from Holladay to Southern California where she and her son spent many sunny Saturdays at the beautiful beaches which was one of her favorite activities.
Mildred remained a faithful member of the LDS church serving in many callings including stake missionary, stake and ward young women presidencies and 6 ½ years as stake secretary to two stake presidents in the Newport Beach Stake.
She was also very active in the singles program of the church and was very faithful in attending the Los Angeles LDS temple.
In 1989 she moved back to Utah where she built a home in West Valley City to be near her son and grandchildren and where she could interact with her brothers and sisters and many extended family members.
She was an ever positive and faithful "Single mom" and devoted her life to supporting her son in every aspect of his life. She will always be remembered for her sacrifice in making his life and the lives of her five grandchildren wonderful.
Mildred is survived by her son Stewart Wendell Weed of Aloha, Oregon, his wife Michele Mouseley Weed, Grandsons Joshua Stewart (Laurel Shea), Christopher M, and Chad Michael , Granddaughters Jennilyn Weed Pratt (Justin) and Maquel Weed Welch (Nathan), her great grandchildren, Anna, Olivia, and Tessa Weed and Alice and Parley Pratt, her brothers in law Wayne Omer and Kenneth Hardy and numerous nieces and nephews.
